Framed Songbird Stem Polychrome Tiles
This framed piece is composed of three tiles – one Long Stem and two Songbirds. The tiles are produced in the ancient Spanish tile-making process known as “ceunca,” meaning basin – the term refers to the small raised lines of clay that make up the “basins” into which the glaze is deposited. The glaze is pooled by hand with a glaze bulb. Created by Motawi Tileworks of Ann Arbor with locally produced clay and glazes, each tile is unique. Handsome quartersawn oak frame has a notch on back for hanging. Jade. Tiles measure approx. 4” x 8” each; framed piece is approx 18” x 13-1/2”.
